Pasifika Fusion group
Lots of students from room 6 were in the CTK pasifika fusion group. Here are a few photos from the performance at the Eden/Albert cultural festival.
Gluten free biscuit experiments
More and more people are finding out that they have allergies to certain foods. We need to learn to find or adapt recipes to suit different people. We altered a basic biscuit recipe and used different flours that did not contain gluten. There were so many to choose from but some were very expensive and hard to find. It is not as easy as just straight swapping of ingredients as we learnt.
For example: *the chickpea flour mixture was very wet so we had to add extra flour
*the coconut flour mixture was very dry even though we added half the amount of flour and double the margarine!
*the arrowroot flour seemed fine prior to cooking it was definitely not ok after baking!!
Different flours made the biscuits taste different and gave them a different texture. Here is a video of us making them and some really quick feedback.

The green screen app
Before we starting filming our nativity show we were given some free time to explore the new app on the ipad so that we could work out how to use it, learn what works and what doesn't work and what are the most important things. One group had multiple sound tracks and effects, props, backgrounds and many current news reports. There was great team work and collaboration plus it was really informative but sadly the record button was never pushed or it was never saved so we didn't end up with a video. :(
Another group researched how to pronounce different place names, common weather terminology and wrote a script out. Again lots of great team work to adjust the colour so that we could clearly see Ferahs face, getting the best angle and light and where was best to hold the script.

Mrs Sullings farewell card
After some discussion we decided to make origami flowers to put on a card. ( we know how much Mrs Sulling loves her flowers!) We individually watched YouTube videos to find one that was exactly what we each wanted (design and complexity) we each typed a personal message that sat under a flap on the card.
Are our families loving us too much!?
We watched the advert about the increasing problem of childhood obesity that asks the question " are our families loving us too much?"
We sorted our lunchboxes into healthy and unhealthy (treats) piles. We gathered all the unhealthy food in the shape of a heart because the unhealthy food on the advert is the same shape, it represents that our families loving us too much by giving us treats and that the unhealthy food can have a bad affect on the health of our hearts.

Christmas puns inside Christmas crackers
We learnt that puns were a play on words. Some people got some of the puns and others didn't. We had to explain to each other what both meanings were.
We then researched Christmas pun to copy or use as inspiration to write our own. We made Christmas crackers and attached them to our wrapped calendars.
