Playing on the junior playground

We started with an obstacle course and then just had some fun!

The hour of code

Yesterday we participated in the world wide event of the hour of code. Children learnt the basics of writing code for a game. A great introduction to computer science which is a growing industry and cld offer many of our children jobs in the future!

Christmas showcase

Students had the chance to create and share their own performance digitally at the Christmas showcase.

Printing wrapping paper

We have designed our own printing block with cardboard. We looked at Pacifica and African patterns that had reflection or rotation for inspiration. We printed it multiple times with red and green ink for Christmas. 

Saints kahoot quiz

As part of year 5 RE Communion of Saints programme the children created a quiz on kahoot about a Saint or multiple Saints. Great fun was had playing each other's quizzes! Whilst learning facts about Saints! 

Learning to play music

We are practising playing jingle bells for the Christmas concert next week. 

Making toys

We have been making huge messes in our room while making toys. Lots of research, problem solving to find different materials to use and trial and error to make things work correctly.

High jump practise

Today we were practising high jump for athletics day next Friday 

Making nets for a purpose

Last term we drew different nets for 3D shapes using connectable 2D shapes.
This term we have measured a block, added 1 cm onto all the measurements and then drawn a net to make a box for the block.

Term 3 Kiwi Sport Netball

Last term we all learnt new skills in netball through kiwi sport. Lots of fun was had by all!

Maths buddy

Room 6 is using maths buddy for free this term! They have set tasks each week to complete and are encouraged to try the next year level up if it was easy. 

It is a great learning tool as it teaches a skill using a video and then asks questions based on the learnt skill and marks them. 

Blindness experience

Last week we got the chance to meet a blind friend of Miss Graham's. He brought in his guide dog, answered lots of questions and taught us how to play goalball. We wore different blindfolds to experience full and partial blindness. It was hard work relying on our ears instead of our eyes!

Foot and mouth painting

We are learning about different disabilities. Yesterday we learnt how some people have not given up their dreams of painting and how they have learnt to adapt to cope with their disability. Most foot and mouth painters we looked at had had a motorbike, pool or rugby accident. We experienced what it was like to paint with either our feet our mouth. The challenge was to paint a autumn tree.

Equivalent Fractions

We have been learning to make fractions using play dough and working out a simpler equivalent fraction.

3D nets

Recently we have been learning about using a 3D net. We predicted whether a net would make a shape and then made them. Then we made 3D shapes and drew the different nets.
